The paper presents data on changes in strength properties, including microhardness, crack resistance, bending and wear of BeO ceramics as a result irradiation with heavy accelerated ions. following types ions were selected ions: O2+ (28 MeV), Ar8+ (70 Kr15+ (147 Xe22+ (230 MeV). Radiation doses 1013 -1015 ion/cm2 , which make it possible to assess the effect both single defects arising from radiation, cluster overlapping defective areas occurring at large radiation doses. During studies carried out, was found that an increase ion energy and, consequently, damaging ability depth damaged area, leads sharp decrease mechanical characteristics ceramics, is due material near-surface layer.
